LAST WEEK an article was making the rounds on several comics-based websites, and has inspired some conversation around the comic shop. Here it is:
The gist is that one of the toughest things about comics retail is subscribers not picking up their boxes-- either at all or in a timely fashion. I agree with this. I love and appreciate our subscribers, they’re the lifeblood of the business, but the sad reality is on any given week there is enough product set aside in lapsed or at-the-time limit sub boxes to cover way more than the store’s rent. It takes a pretty good amount of vigilance, time and effort to wrangle those folks in to clear out. I accept this as part of the reality, but it strains occasionally. The more proactive subscribers can be in picking up their books, the healthier we are. And if there’s anything keeping subscribers from coming in, proactively communicating with us goes a long way in maintaining good will and our ability to work with you through glitchy times.

We base the quantity we order on interest from subscribers, so the more info you can give us up front, the better.

DEATH BE DAMNED (Boom!) Good name. Good comic? Time will tell. Acker & Blacker of ‘Thrilling Adventure Hour’ notoriety deliver this revenge Western.
JOHN CARTER: THE END (D.E.) There’ve been a lot of mediocre John Carter comics over the last couple decades, so imagine my pleasant surprise in seeing how good this one looks.
