Hello, all--
One of the bigger rumblings to ripple through the comics biz this week
was the announcement of DC officially closing down the VERTIGO
imprint... several people have asked for my read on that (for whatever
that's worth-- DC didn't consult with me before deciding lolz) so I
thought I'd offer it here real quick. At first glance it's a giant
bummer, as Vertigo is responsible for some of the best comics of the
last 30 years no contest: Y the Last Man, Sandman, Scalped, Preacher,
and Fables just to name a few. The imprint and the creators it allowed
to push the boundaries of what comics can be changed the industry
forever, for the better. Over the last decade, though, due to policy
changes at DC, the imprint has lost its luster. They don't attract much
A-list talent, they haven't had any luck breaking any new talent in
quite some time, and all the best stuff that would've been here moved
over to Image (which is specifically designed to put out genre-pushing
creator-owned work). The spirit of Vertigo is alive and well in every
great creator-owned comic out there, and there is a huge bank of amazing
stuff out currently. So it's not that much of a bummer after all. And
they're going to keep things like Sandman and Morrison's Doom Patrol in
print, just with a small label change from VERTIGO to DC BLACK LABEL.
Change is good sometimes, and I think this is gonna be fine.
Speaking of Vertigo, what a great time to remind everyone that we're
still BUYING SINGLE ISSUE COMICS! We don't buy everything that comes
through the door, but if you've got some of the following things and
you're not feeling very attached, we'd like to take a look and maybe
make you an offer on them:
*Vertigo/DC mature readers stuff! Namely the earlier books like Animal
Man, Doom Patrol, Swamp Thing, Sandman and Preacher, up through Scalped,
Y the Last Man and Fables.
*70s Marvel horror stuff!
*key issues/1st appearances!
*Batman and Amazing Spider-Man are always interesting too.
If you don't have this stuff but still wanna bring stuff in for us to
possibly buy, we still wanna see what you've got. Come on by, any day
but TUESDAYS! Thanks!
LAST CALL! These are the debuting titles that arrive in just a few
weeks... as per usual, telling us now before our orders lock (ON
MONDAY!) is the best way to guarantee we get you what you want!
